One Generation... Forgotten

“And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which He had done for Israel.”

How quickly things can be forgotten! All the successes, all the blessings, all about the One who made it all possible. One generation…forgotten. The nation of Israel had been so blessed by their Lord, and they understood that and worshiped and served Him. But there was something wrong. This love and reliance on their God were not passed to their children and grandchildren. They must not have spoken of their relationship with their God. All the triumphs, and struggles they encountered on their journey. Our nation has been much the same. The fact that our founders relied and looked to God when constructing our great nation, and anything at all about our founding fathers is being forgotten, in fact this is being done on purpose.

“Let the children… be carefully instructed in the principles and obligations of the Christian religion. This is the most essential part of education.”

This statement was written by one of our founding fathers, Benjamin Rush. How does a nation forsake God and become a perverse nation? It is becoming ignorant of their beginnings, their heritage, and not seeking the God of their fathers. We need a nation in which parents teach their children their history, and how God and the Bible impacted its birth. And even more importantly than that, we need a nation that looks to God now, and teaches another generation about Him. So parent, teach your children our history, tell them about our great God, have devotions with them! Young adult and teen, learn our history, spend time with your God today!
